The grey marble called Gortynis is a pure marble because its main mineralogic component is calcite (recrystalised limestone) with crystals size of 0,03 - 1,5 mm.

The chemical and mineralogical analysis showed that Gortynis grey marble is constituted from calcite (recrystalised limestone) in a percentage more than 96%.

Its abrasion resistance and physical - mechanical properties fullfill the european EN standards (EN 1469:2004 / EN 12058:2004 / EN 12057:2004 / EN 1341:2002 / EN 1342:2002 / EN 1343:2002 etc) and the american ΑSTM standards (C-97 / C-99 / C-170 etc).

The Gortynis grey marble has a characteristic (silver) grey colour, it is smoothed and polished very well. Also it is characterized by homogenous colour and crystalic structure. It does not need any epoxy resins or any kind of special treatment. It is solid and quite strong by nature!

The divergences from the representative color and the crystalline structure are minimal, practically negligible. It doesn't contain earthy adhesive admixtures and doesn't present fractures neither cracks.

Due to its high homogeneity, it is uniformly contructed and expanded and doesn’t incure permanent deformities with the changes of the environmental temperature. Its fine crystalline structure, the high homogeneity in color and the absence of earthy admixtures, cracks and fractures classify it among the best marble worldwide.

It is frost free due to its very low water absorption (one of the lowest among the marbles worldwide). Consequently it does not appear cracks as other marbles do at low temperatures due to water's expansion at temperatures below 4° C (degrees Celsius).

The Gortynis grey marble is presented unaltered through centuries in the ruins of the ancient city of “Gortys”, where it maintains its natural beauty under very unfavourable environmental conditions. The floor of the Odeum, the big columns of the PRAETORIUM (the Roman’s ministerial headquater) and the temples of APOLLONOS, ISIS[1] and SARAPIS[1] are made from Gortynis grey marble
These splendid architectural masterpieces, aged of more than 2.500 years old, are the best proof of Gortynis grey marble high quality and durability. In particular, the external use of the gortynis grey marble demonstrates its adventages and resistances to time corrosion and attrition.

We can say with certainty that Gortynis grey marble is the best quality grey marble among other grey marbles in the world, a material idealy fitted for internal and external projects.

Also Gortynis grey marble is known in the international market with various brand names such as Greek grey marble, Creta grey marble, Creta silver marble, Aghios Kyrillos marble, Silver Grey marble and others.
